Innovation and person-centred care
Turun Lähimmäispalveluyhdistys is an organisation dedicated to the comprehensive care of elderly people. Their main centre, the Kotikunnas residence, is home to more than a hundred residents and supported by a large multidisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers. For years, the centre has been looking for new ways to enrich the daily lives of people with reduced mobility or advanced age.
Transforming care through immersive technology
In 2019, the organisation began a collaboration with CTRL Reality Oy to explore the potential of immersive technologies in the field of geriatric care. Through this collaboration, the Broomx immersive projection system was integrated into a specific space in the residence, which quickly became a key part of Kotikunnas’ innovative care model.

Opening new windows to the world
The main objective was to ‘bring the outside world inside’ the center. Thanks to immersive experiences, residents can reconnect with nature, visit meaningful places, or enjoy cultural activities that would otherwise be inaccessible. The sessions are designed to promote relaxation and stimulate memory, curiosity and conversation, always adapting to each person’s abilities and preferences.

Guided experiences that are part of everyday life
Currently, the immersive space is used on a weekly basis, both in group and individual sessions. The content includes natural environments, virtual trips to Finnish landscapes and cultural experiences such as music and art. The support of the staff and the training provided by CTRL Reality have enabled the team to manage the system independently, integrating it naturally into the center’s routine.
